Legal Guardian (LG) – Adult who has full educational rights regarding a student. This person is responsible for changing contacts on the account, reregistering student, withdrawing student, signing school agreement forms or updating contact information for the student and other adults on the account. (If multiple LG’s are listed on an account – both of them have the same rights.)
Emergency Contact (EC) – Adult who can be contacted if LC or LG is not available. No educational information can be shared with the EC however, school representatives can call/email them in attempts to reach out to student/family.
Status: If an adult has multiple boxes checked, the following takes priority: LG → LC → EC ( In general LG takes priority over Learning Coach and Learning Coach takes priority over Emergency Contact).
To Remove a person from the student's contact list: We just request that the staff member receiving the request fills out the Learning Coach Escalation or Contact Information Change Escalation. LG’s can submit a change for an LC or EC on the account freely. If any escalation indicates a change to an LG's status as an LC/LG and no additional supporting guardianship is provided, the LG who is having changes made must be notified on the account. If an LG has asked that a person be removed from the student’s contact list, the Operations Specialist will uncheck all the boxes for that contact, and that contact can be made “inactive”. If there is an FRC report/concern for student safety regarding an LG: those will be escalated to cabinet for review.
