Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

Multifactor Authentication (MFA): New Phone or Adding Other Sign-In Methods

🔐 Multifactor Authentication (MFA): Quick Tips 📱

If you recently updated your phone or want to add another sign-in method, here's a quick summary of what you need to know:

👉 New Number: If you have a new phone number, visit https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info to see if you can update the number used for call/text verification.
New Phone: If you have a new phone but the same phone number, download any authenticator apps you were using on your old phone. When prompted to authenticate, it should still recognize the phone number already associated with your account and allow you to sign in.

🚨 If you're unable to authenticate your account or sign in, submit a ticket at k12rit.com, and the regional IT team will help you out! 🙌

💡 Pro Tip: It's a good idea to set up more than one sign-in method—just in case you ever lose access to your primary one!

Now, let’s walk through how to add a new phone number or other sign-in methods below. 👇

Adding Other Sign-In Methods

  1. Sign into your Microsoft account at aka.ms/mfasetup (Cyber Academy or Heron Academy email)

  1. This will take you to the K12 Sign-In page

  1. Sign in with your K12/Microsoft username and password

  1.  A Box will pop up from Stride asking you to verify your identity. There will be a list of options to choose how you want to authenticate (this list will depend on how you originally set the authenticator to alert you)

  1. Once you verify your identity, you may get a message asking if you want to stay signed in. Click “Yes.”

  1. The Security info page is where you can add or change a sign-in method.

  1. Click on “Add sign-in method”. Different options will be displayed

  1. You can add a cell phone number and your work Google Voice number. It will give you the choice to send you a code via text or call your phone to authenticate.

  1. If adding the MFA App, follow the prompts that pop up

The next time you are asked to authenticate via the MFA app, a box will appear on your computer screen with “Approve sign in request” and a code. It will prompt your MFA app on your phone to ask if you are trying to sign in and give an option for you to enter the code that was sent.

If you are unable to authenticate your account, submit a ticket at k12rit.com

  1. Click on "Help Desk Ticket"

 2. In the Search Bar, type "MFA Reset"

3. Click on "MFA Reset/Unblock Request"

4. Complete the ticket, and click submit. Someone from K12rit will reach out to the number/email you provide.
