Logging Into Microsoft 365 and Troubleshooting Login Errors

InfoMicrosoft 365 provides access to essential work tools such as Outlook, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and other Microsoft applications. Use this guide to learn how to sign in and resolve common login issues.
 

  1. Sign into http://portal.office.com/


  1. Enter your Outlook email address (cyberacademysc.org or heronacademysc.org) on the Microsoft sign-in page



  1. On the K12 Login page, enter your master username and password for all K12 systems.

⭐Some staff may have a Microsoft Admin account and a Teacher account; other central staff may have accounts with two different schools. Best practice is to try logging into one account on Chrome and then the other account on a different browser. See more Troubleshooting steps in this article.



Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

⭐The first time you log into your Microsoft 365 account, you may be prompted to set up your authentication methods. 

  1. After you sign in, you will be prompted for more information. Click “Next”.



  1. The default authentication method is to use the free Microsoft Authenticator app, But you may also select I want to set up a different method. Microsoft 365 will ask for your mobile number, then send you an SMS message containing a 6-digit code to verify your device.


  1. Once you complete the instructions to specify your additional verification method, the next time you sign in to Microsoft 365, you'll be prompted to provide the additional verification information or action, such as typing the verification code provided by your authenticator app or sent to you by text message.

Troubleshooting Microsoft Login Errors

  1. Try to log in from a different web browser Symbols of Firefox, Google Chrome, and Edge Browsers

  2. Clear cache and cookies

  3. Use an incognito/private window


  1. On the K12 Login page, click Need Help Logging In > Forgot Password


  1. Enter your username and then click on Send Reset Link. It will send a reset link to your work gmail (theheroninstitute.org)
