Required 2-Step Verification For Google Accounts

🔐 Keep Your Google Account Secure!
📢 Starting October 23, 2025, all Google accounts will require 2-Step Verification.
✅ Turn it on today to avoid delays or missed communication.

Turn on 2-Step Verification

  1. Open your Google Account.
  2. Tap Security & sign-in.

3. Under “How you sign in to Google,” select Turn on 2-Step Verification.

4. Follow the on-screen steps.

In this example, "Google Prompt" was selected

Using Google prompts

If you choose not to sign in with a passkey, we recommend you use Google prompts as your second step. It's easier to tap a prompt than enter a verification code. Prompts can also help protect against SIM swap and other phone number-based hacks.

You’ll receive Google prompts as push notifications on:

  • Android phones that are signed in to your Google Account.
  • iPhones with the Gmail app , the Google Photos app Photos, the YouTube app YouTube, or the Google app  signed in to your Google Account.

Alert
Use other verification methods

It is highly recommended to set up other verification methods in case you:

    • Want increased protection against phishing
    • Can’t get Google prompts
    • Lose your phone

In this example, "Phone Number" was selected.
Google will send a verification code via SMS or a phone call

In this example, "Authenticator App" was selected.
This Generates a code using an app like Google Authenticator
