K12 uses Trellix Web Protection on K12 provided computers to block students from accessing unsafe websites.
Parents can also block specific websites in their browsers. Follow these steps for each browser type used by the student, as blocking a site in one browser will not block the site if the student switches to a different browser.
Chrome
Open Chrome and access the following site, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/
In the “Search the store” search box (directly above Apps), type: block site and then hit enter
Search and click on the “Block Site” extension
Select + ADD TO CHROME next to “BlockSite”
Click on Add extension on the pop-up screen
In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the Chrome menu (three vertical dots)
Select More tools and Extensions from the fly-out menu
Click Details under Block Site and select "Extension Options"
On the Block Site Options tab, under “Blocked Sites” add the site(s) you would like to block (example: http://www.facebook.com) and then click Close
Close the Extensions tab
Firefox
Click Tools (three horizontal lines)
Select Add-ons from the drop-down menu
On the top of the screen, in the “Search all add-ons" search box, type: block sites and then hit enter
Search and click on the "Block Site" extension.
Click Add to Firefox next to "Block Site recommended (or use the latest version provided)
Click on Add on the pop-up screen
If prompted Restart Firefox; If not prompted, close and re-open Firefox
Click Tools (three horizontal lines)
Select Add-ons from the drop-down menu.
Click Extensions on the left side of the screen
Click the Options button (three horizontal lines) on the right side of the screen next to “Block site” (or the latest version you have installed)
On the “BlockSite Preferences” pop-up window, Under “Blacklist” click the Add button
Add the site you would like to block (example: http://www.facebook.com) and then click OK
Repeat steps 11 and 12 until you have blocked all of the sites you wish and then click OK
Close the Add-ons tab
Microsoft Edge (Win 10)
Open Edge and go to Tools (three vertical dots) and then click “Extensions”
Click Get extensions for Microsoft Edge and then In the Search Bar Type " Block Sites" and then hit enter
Click on the “Get” button next to the "Block Site" add-on.
Click on the “Add Extension” button from the Pop-up Window.
The Block Site add-on will be added on the top right corner of Microsoft Edge Browser
Now, whenever you visit a website that is Bot safe, you can just click on the Block Sites adds-on button and the website will be blocked.
There are other options such as family security where families can track and block sites and put time limits on the internet for their students. For this, they can go into “Settings” from the Edge Tool Menu and then click on “Family Safety” and then can set up the features accordingly.
